Conception Island

It is a joy to cruise in these pure waters! Conception Island is a nature reserve with no amenities and that’s fine, but it’s the most beautiful place for nature lovers! The name of this park comes from the fact that the mangrove of the island is a habitat particularly suitable for the calving of turtles, sharks, rays, etc. The region is a paradise for the observation of fauna and flora in its wildest state. Ornithology enthusiasts will be particularly pampered by the variety of species present on the island.

Scuba diving

You will find a few mooring buoys in Rocky Bank Bay and 5 smaller ones along the coral wall to moor your dinghy for diving. You can’t miss the dive sites and the coral wall is spectacular! It starts at 30 feet and descends in crystal clear water to 200+ feet! Last year, during our first visit, we had the most beautiful surprise possible during our first dive; the visit of 2 dolphins who had fun with us for a few minutes.

The snorkeling is also very nice on the North side. We promised ourselves to come back for longer and with more tanks next year.

You never know what you may encounter underwater!

The mangroves

This year, we couldn’t dive because of Patrick’s heart attack in the fall, but we took the opportunity to explore the mangroves and appreciated the variety of colors and all the fauna and flora present in this ecosystem.

If you decide to put Conception Island and its mangroves on your itinerary, be sure to get to the mangroves at high tide and get there early enough in the day to get plenty of sun to enjoy it safely. When the sun is at its zenith, the water is clearer, obstacles more visible and everything else in the water as well.

This is definitely a destination worth visiting for all the mermaids like me!
