Harbour Island Gastronomy

One of the reasons why we particularly like Harbor Island, other than the magnificent beaches, the friendliness of its inhabitants and the aquatic fauna, is the number and quality of restaurants offering a variety of equally delicious dishes.

Here is a list of our discoveries and some photos to whet your appetite, because we also eat with our eyes!

1- The Landing Hotel and Restaurant: Noisy atmosphere inside, but calm and pleasant in the gardens. Be sure to book well in advance to avoid disappointment. The dishes are delicious, prepared and presented with care.

Several options of places to enjoy the delicacies concocted by the chef!

2- The Rock House is probably our favorite (so far)! This 10-room boutique hotel has been in existence for 80 years and offers you the opportunity to treat yourself in the dining room or on the terrace by the magnificent swimming pool. If you arrive in time for the sunset, request a table accordingly, you won’t be disappointed! The dishes are refined, fresh, presented with delicacy and creativity and the daily specials are always a wise choice.

3- The Runaway Hill, owned by Canadian hockey player Mark Messier, is a beachfront little gem! The wine list is interesting and again, the menu is varied, the local foods are fresh and the flavors are pleasant and carefully married. Let yourself be tempted by the chef’s inspiration which is always a very good option!

Relaxing after a good dinner!

4- Coral Sands Beach Bar is a flight of steps from the beach. This hotel offers a breathtaking view of the sea and offers a fairly varied lunch menu consisting of salads, pizzas, burgers and sandwiches. It is good to eat there in the shade while admiring the landscape.

5- The Bar 480 at Briland Marina is located on the docks of the marina. This bar offers cocktails respecting the art of mixology, concocted with quality alcohols, freshly squeezed juices and a lot of know-how. They also have, it seems, the best burger on the Island, but we didn’t have the chance to taste it… Even if you don’t own one of the magnificent yachts docked here, it’s a nice place to dream!

6- The Rooster Tail Bar and Grill at Valentines Marina is the perfect place for lunch after the crossing. Festive atmosphere, delicious food, cocktails, everything to put you in tune with the island when you arrive!

7- The Boathouse  right next to the Rooster Tail  is also part of the Valentines marina complex and offers a more chic atmosphere. You can enjoy Bahamian specialties including fresh and carefully prepared fish and seafood. The service is warm and efficient and the view of the marina is very pretty.

8- The Dunmore Restaurant is found inside the hotel of the same name. This is the perfect place to see and be seen! The retro decor of the 60s, with old photos of the time in the dining room or the breeze on the terrace facing the magnificent pink sand beach make it a privileged destination. The menu, although limited, offers quality food, well prepared and presented. Make sure you have a reservation.

9- Da Vine Wine Merchant a must if you crave fresh sushi and the wine and sake bar experience is interesting for making discoveries. Tiny, but very pleasant, the terrace allows you to appreciate the warmth of the night and observe the comings and goings of walkers on Bay Street.

It was our second visit and this time we asked for a seat inside and I must admit that the experience was very pleasant.

10- Arthur’s Bakery is the perfect place for a gourmet breakfast (the croissants are delicious) or for a decadent pastry!

11- Malcom 51, located inside the Pink Sands Resort is a pleasant discovery for us this year. The dining room with its colonial decor, the inviting bar, the magnificently illuminated gardens make it a destination of choice and that’s without counting the most important thing: the quality of the menu. The dishes were delicious and presented with expertise and new this year, a sushi counter adds a new, most inventive taste palette to the dishes already offered.

12- This year, in order to try something new, we opted for Romora Bay Marina and were warmly welcomed by the staff with a delicious Goombay Smash, well deserved after crossing the Devil’s Backbone. We went for lunch at the Sunset Restaurant & Bar on the resort adjacent to the marina known for its musical Happy Hour at sunset and we enjoyed one of the best fish sandwiches and a most satisfying hamburger. It’s a very popular place at the end of the day, but I must admit that we enjoyed their delicious cocktails in the afternoon, while lounging by the infinity pool which overlooks directly the bay. It’s definitely an experience worth repeating!
