Our 10 essentials in RV

+ 2 bonuses

  1. There are several options for preparing your route in RV, including certain applications, but we preferred the GPS made specifically for this usage the Garmin RV 1090, because it has a clear screen, it is easy to use, you can enter the parameters there. of our vehicle in order to allow it to create routes for us respecting these parameters (weight, height, width, length, etc.) and it includes several applications already integrated such as national parks, KOA campsites, a link with the application iOverlander and it is even possible to pair it with your cell phone. We would have liked the larger model with a built-in front camera, but it was out of stock by the time we left. The Dash Mount Holder is very practical for ensuring that the GPS stays in place and works very well (updated the test during emergency braking!).

2. In order to tow our vehicle safely, we equipped our RV with a Bue Ox vehicle tow bar as well as a Patriot towing brake which is mandatory in certain American states. We entrusted the installation to professionals and the use is simple and efficient.

3. To level the RV on a flat, stable surface and avoid sinking into the ground, Camco Jack Support Pads are perfect as they are not made from wood, but from recycled materials, they can cross borders without problems, which is not always the case with homemade pads made of plywood.

4.

All new RVs now come with a traditional home refrigerator upgraded with a door retaining mechanism, but we agree that the contents of the fridge tend to wander around when we are on the road. To avoid disasters when opening the door, we installed these extendable bars that keep the contents of the fridge in the fridge.

5. Rectangular, stackable and round acrylic organizers keep everything neatly organized, see the contents and ensure nothing falls out when opening the fridge or compartment.

6. Foldable fabric storage bins are, in my opinion, essential for storage in cupboards which are much more numerous than drawers. We can identify them and always have our things well organized. No more headaches and messy cabinets!

7. Installing an indoor retractable clothesline in our shower gives us an additional option for drying clothes indoors without cluttering the RV. The fact that our vehicle is equipped with a skylight in the shower also speeds up the drying speed, because the heat is always greater there than in the rest of the vehicle. It is made of stainless steel which prevents it from rusting and I even bought a second one to install in our boat!

8.

When venturing outside in the evening, whether setting up camp or returning from a sunset walk or an evening around the fire at your friends’ camp, your best ally for getting home safely is a rechargeable headlamp. The new models offer several types of light beams as well as different intensities and colors.

9. After being woken up in the middle of the night by a defective original C02 detector (a very stressful situation, I admit), we decided to add this battery-powered  C02 and smoke detector combo to give us peace of mind in the event that the one plugged into the vehicle’s electrical system fails again. You can never be too well protected!

10. Because it is difficult to ensure water quality at every place we fill up, we filter our water using this water filter and we only use this Camco drinking water hose to ensure we avoid contaminating our drinking water tank . It is very flexible unlike many other hoses and is designed specifically for this use. We use another hose for all other uses. For those who want a heated hose for chilly spring and fall nights, this one is great! And honestly, having a spare hose can be extremely helpful to you or a neighbor! One last thing in plumbing that could save you from dramatic water damage is a water pressure regulator. I admit that we are more often in the presence of a lack of pressure, but this situation does not risk bursting your pipes, while the opposite can be catastrophic!

When I asked my partner what his essentials were, he also made me think of these items, showing that we don't all have the same priorities!

11. Once we arrive at our destination, we like to settle down there for a few days in comfort and my husband’s favorite outdoor furniture is without a doubt our zero gravity deck chairs which are perfect for relaxing by the fire or admire a sunset by a lake!

12. Another item that his Cartesian mind brought to the discussion was an extension cord for the RV electrical cord, because sometimes some campgrounds hired an architect with no camping experience to create the layout of their sites. A power adapter (30-50 amps and 30amp-110 volts) may be useful as well as a surge protector to prevent unstable electrical current from damaging your electrical devices.
